A product of the deep south, the author attended schools in Louisiana, California, and Texas, and, as a post-
doctoral fellow, he and his wife spent two years in London. He has taught university-level courses and now
directs a cancer research laboratory that focuses on understanding how radiations affect living cells. He is
the author of more than fifty scientific papers, and he has presented his research results at meetings world-wide.
He enjoys cooking, music, and growing bonsai, although he has now grown to hate traveling. He writes as
